Now that gay marriage is the hot topic sweeping the country, I've been trying to formulate my own arguments against it.  As a Bible-believing Christian, the moral argument is the easy one.  But moral arguments are not going to get me very far with, at best, amoral people.  So, I'm looking for more practical arguments against gay marriage.  Let me know what you think.  Even if you think that there are no practical arguments, only moral ones.

Yikes, yes, that is about as practical as it gets, I suppose. However, that doesn't stand as an argument too long without getting into the "pleasure vs. procreation" debate, which is a moral debate, yes?

this arguement can be had on so many levels, you can have the moral arguement that as Christians we believe it is wrong. My question is this... and it can apply to more than just gay marrige stuff. but are we suppose to legislate morality? I mean, God gave us free-will to choose what to do.. some will follow and some will not, but as Americans.. is it any of my business if someone wants to live as a homosexual couple? Maybe it is, maybe there are somethings that are just wrong and shouldn't be legel (murder for instance) but we try and legislate morality all the time and i wonder if this does anything but drive a bigger and more divisive gap between those who need God and those who know God? these are questions i wrestle with all the time.

pleasure vs. procreation:
I don't think its a moral debate as much as it is a natural debate. Sex is the means of procreation. On all levels of the biological world sex is the method of continuing the species. If it wasn't pleasurable for us, would future generations exist? So when there is no attempted procreation happening I don't think we can still call it sex. The term sodomy should be used. For centuries cultures and governments have considered sodomy taboo. Socrates was guilty of "corrupting the youth." Something about being naked with young men. The Greeks found that to be out of line in their civilized society. I think I'm getting off topic. I think morality has everything to do with it, but its not morality like 10 Commandments-Christian morality. Its human morality, which eventually will lead back to and has its basis in God. So a one state in the U.S. passed a law about gay marriage and a vocal minority want the same law in other states. Bottom line: the law is unconstitutional just as the same sex partner property law in California is unconstitutional.
