« New Arrested Development | Main | Christmas Continued »

I was just listening to an interview with James Carville on NPR.  He's a liberal author, perhaps among other things; I'm not that familar with him beyond what I heard today.  He was talking about his book that discusses how to “take the country back”, presumably he means from the Republicans.  There were two things in the interview that made me mad.

First, he stated that Bush went to war under false pretenses.  This is an old argument.  He went on to say that the Bush administration pursued a policy of calling all those who opposed the war “un-American”.  I understand that there are people in this country who believe that people who oppose the war are “un-American”, but I have not heard that from anyone in the Bush administration.  I actually haven't personally heard it from anyone except from the people who oppose the war.  Perhaps their guilt makes them paranoid.  If someone can find me a quote from someone in the Bush administration supporting this policy, I'd appreciate it.

Second, he attacked a policy against gay marriage.  Here's his argument: “It [the policy against gay marriage] is too stupid for words.”  Guess what, James, that's not an argument.  That's name-calling.

I think Carville is a Senator or former Senator. If its the guy I'm thinking of he is bald and white. And was on Old School. Will Ferrel beat him in the debate competition (now you know why, Ferrel didn't use the cop-out "too stupid for words").
On a related note, I was watching Real Time with Bill Maher last night. I was bored and was hoping there'd be a skin flick on (just kidding). His panel was Ron Silver, D. Issa, and Al Sharpton. Ron Silver read several quotes about weapons of mass destruction and "getting" Saddam before he "got" us. The quotes were from Clinton in 1998. I think a lot of liberal politicians and commentators judge good and bad from what the opposition is doing. If the opposition supports a view or policy, its bad.

Indeed, when someone lacks the skills to argue against a policy, they tend to argue against the person to whom the policy belongs. If they lack the skills to argue against the person, they tend to just insult the person. I'm all about people arguing about policies, and even about the character of a policymaker, so long as they actually have an argument.

James Carville is a Southern Louisiana political strategist who was head of Clinton's political campaign (his first and second, I believe).

He's also on Meet the Press it seems every time I turn that show on. Maybe I shouldn't skip Sunday School so much so I don't have to watch him. He seems squirerlly to me.
